Born and raised in Selangor, Malaysia, Sharmila Begum graduated in Law at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, UK. During her final course of studies, she was encouraged by her sister to take up IP law.

Thereafter, she began her career as a paralegal at an established firm in Malaysia, where she developed her legal skills on matters related to Civil Litigation, before joining Mirandah Asia.

At Mirandah Asia, her specialisations have evolved into trademarks, copyright, gaming, media and advertising law under the care of Patrick Mirandah. She decided to grow her career in intellectual property as it provides an opportunity for her to combine different areas of interest and develop a specialised blend of legal expertise. She is also currently pursuing her Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) on a part-time basis, which will qualify her as an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia in the near future.

Sharmila enjoys hiking and travelling.  From her high school days, she remains an avid supporter of the Germany national football team. She speaks fluent English, Tamil, Malay, Hindi and Malayalam fairly.
