Thailand is intensifying her crackdown on intellectual property infringement, with a raid on 11 shops within MBK, a popular Bangkok shopping center. This operation, jointly conducted by the Department of Special Investigations (“DSI”) and the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court on 27 August 2024, uncovered more than 20,000 counterfeit products.
Designated as Special Case No. 91/2567, the operation led to the seizure of counterfeit goods from brands such as Louis Vuitton, CHANEL, Gucci, and Dior. The seized items included bags, sunglasses, perfumes, watches and hats with an estimated market value exceeding 20 million baht, were confiscated for further investigation.
Intellectual property infringement not only damages the national economy but also tarnishes Thailand’s global image. Taking decisive action against IP violations is crucial for raising public awareness about the importance of protecting intellectual property rights, thereby improve Thailand’s IP protection ranking, restore the country’s reputation on the international stage and improve the economy as a whole.
