The Automatic Approval for Trademark Renewal (“POP Merek”) was launched by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) on 30 October 2022.

POP Merek simplifies the renewal process of trademark, and renewal applications meeting the formality requirements can expect to receive approval and renewal certificates within ten (10) minutes, as opposed to two (2) to four (4) weeks under the previous system. In addition, upon the issuance of approval and renewal certificates, the online database of DGIP will also be automatically updated to reflect the status and extended period of protection.

Trademarks which are in the process of dispute resolution or change, by way of assignment, change of name or address or transfer of agent, may not utilize the POP Merek, which is meant for straightforward application.

The automation of renewal applications is a welcome step towards enhanced digitization of DGIP and greater efficiency, thereby encouraging innovation and recovery of the Indonesian economy post-pandemic.
