In addition to the existing CS&E programme with IP Viet Nam, IPOS has expanded its CS&E programme with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), Indonesia to expedite the prosecution process for parties who have an interest to pursue patent applications in both countries.
This pilot programme was introduced on 2 January 2025 for 2 years, till 1 January 2027.
The main benefits of the programme are:
- A comprehensive prior art search and examination results through the combined knowledge and resources of IPOS and DGIP;
- Expedited CS&E report from both patent offices within 10 months upon submission of the CS&E request;
- Option to defer translation cost and official fees for filing and/or search and examination for patent application of the later office, allowing applicants to make informed decisions;
- Prioritised examination at the office of later filing / examination if the claims filed in the later office correspond to the claims referenced in the CS&E report issued by the earlier office.
Pre-requisites:
- Applicant must provide a local address for service;
- Patent applications should contain no more than 20 claims, with three or fewer independent claims.
- Requests for CS&E is capped at 10 applications per year shared between IPOS and DGIP, with 1 cap per month and 1 per applicant. Once the monthly cap is reached, a notification will be issued on IPOS Digital Hub Banner.
English is the operational language for this CS&E programme. Documents exchanged between Offices will be conducted in English, with English translations provided by the relevant Office throughout the duration of the programme.
This initiative provides another option for businesses to pursue expedited patent prosecution in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam, thereby strengthening their IP protection across ASEAN.
